Cerussite is a lead carbonate mineral prized by mineral collectors for its stunning crystal forms and incredible fluorescence. It often forms clear, white, or gray crystals, though impurities can lead to variations in color, including shades of green, blue, or yellow. Cerussite is typically found in a variety of crystal habits, including acicular, tabular, and prismatic forms, often twinned or forming complex reticulated (lattice-like) structures. With a high refractive index, cerussite crystals exhibit an adamantine luster, making them exceptionally brilliant and eye-catching.

This mineral is relatively soft, with a Mohs hardness of 3 to 3.5, and heavy, due to its lead content. Cerussite often occurs as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of lead ore deposits, frequently associated with other lead minerals such as galena and anglesite. Collectors value cerussite not only for its beauty and diversity of forms but also for its relative rarity and the fascinating environments in which it forms. Care should be taken in handling and storing cerussite specimens to prevent damage due to their softness and brittleness.
