About Opal
Opal is prized and often adorned for its incredible display of the colors of the rainbow.   Its beauty and ease of cutting make it very popular in jewelry, despite being quite soft compared to most other worn stones.  It is typically not faceted, but rather cut into freeform cabochons, and top grade material can be extremely valuable.  Australia is a major and classical source, although Ethiopian Welo Opals are a strong rival.  You can find opal only dealers at most mid-size and larger rock shows.
